Orthodontics for adults – functional, esthetic, sustainable
Orthodontic treatment is by no means tied to a specific age. We specialize in advising and treating adult patients individually – with the aim of correcting misaligned teeth and jaws both functionally and esthetically in the long term. Today, modern treatment concepts enable efficient and gentle correction of misaligned teeth, even in adulthood.
Functional therapy of temporomandibular joint disorders
In addition to esthetic improvement, orthodontic therapy focuses on restoring physiological function. By correctly aligning the teeth and harmonizing the jaw relationships, the aim is to achieve an even load on the teeth, jawbone and temporomandibular joints. This can contribute to the prevention and treatment of craniomandibular dysfunctions (CMD) such as occlusal disorders and muscular misloads. In addition, correctly positioned teeth facilitate oral hygiene at home and can thus reduce the risk of tooth decay and periodontitis, making an important contribution to long-term dental health.
Discreet orthodontic treatment concepts for everyday (professional) life
Modern adult orthodontics offers a variety of esthetically unobtrusive treatment options that can be easily integrated into everyday professional and private life. Depending on the individual situation, the following systems are used, among others:
- Lingual multi-bracket appliances (internal fixed braces)
- clear aligner therapies
- Fixed appliances with inconspicuous ceramic brackets
- Extraction avoidance by means of secondary anchoring
- Palatal expansion without surgery and much more.
We would be happy to advise you personally in our practice so that together we can find the optimal therapy for your individual needs.

Orthodontic treatment
Please be inconspicuous!
The treatment of misaligned teeth serves to improve or restore the function of your chewing apparatus in order to achieve an esthetically perfect result.
Diagnostics
We take age-related biological peculiarities into account when providing therapy and drawing up your individual treatment plan.
Beforehand, we clarify together whether the family dentist should carry out any preliminary work. We then take digital impressions (scans), X-rays and photos of your teeth after a detailed examination. If necessary, the individual position of the temporomandibular joint is also recorded in order to plan the treatment precisely and safely and to identify and treat individual temporomandibular joint problems.
Esthetic treatment
As our adult patients usually want treatment that is as inconspicuous or invisible as possible, we offer ceramic brackets, lingual braces or treatment with Invisalign aligners in addition to other traditional solutions.
We are happy to advise you personally and show you which treatment options are best suited to your individual desired smile and communicate honestly if some solutions are out of the question or not ideal for you.
Retention
After active therapy, the next important step is retention of the result. With an individual retention concept, we help you to secure the results achieved in the long term.
FAQ about the
adult treatment
What is special about adult treatment?
Teeth can still be moved in adulthood. The difference is that we can no longer use jaw growth, but we work with modern methods such as inconspicuous brackets, transparent splints or special anchorages such as the Benefit System.
It is also important to think about dental health (e.g. periodontitis or dentures). Successful treatment often leads to improved hygiene and helps to prevent dental and periodontal diseases.
Am I too old for braces?
No 😊 – Teeth can be moved at any age. It’s only jaw growth that we can no longer use in adults.
What if dentures are already in place?
Orthodontic treatment is also possible in this case. We take this into account in our treatment planning, in consultation with your family dentist.
Are invisible aligners the perfect treatment method for adults?
In principle, YES. However, the effectiveness of the transparent aligners is designed for mild to moderate malocclusions.
More complex treatments can be carried out with a combination of aligners and other methods if required.
Will the brace affect my everyday life or job?
Hardly – modern systems are discreet and hardly interfere with speech. Many are almost invisible in everyday life.
Can I eat and speak normally during the treatment?
Yes – however, some familiarization is necessary at the beginning. With fixed braces, very hard or sticky foods are unfavorable as they can lead to increased bracket loss. Aligners are removed for meals.
How important is the retention phase?
Very important! Retainers are the only way to keep teeth in their new position permanently.
What are the costs for people with statutory health insurance?
As a rule, orthodontic services are not covered by statutory health insurance for patients who have reached the age of 18 at the start of treatment.
Adult patients must bear the costs of orthodontic treatment privately. Supplementary dental insurance can be helpful.
The only exceptions are patients who require combined orthodontic and maxillofacial surgery to correct the malocclusion, as well as some special indications. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
What are the costs for privately insured persons?
Many private insurance policies cover orthodontic treatment for adults. This varies depending on the tariff taken out.
In individual cases, you should contact your health insurance company and always submit a treatment and cost plan for approval.
If you are entitled to financial aid, the aid usually only covers limited costs up to the age of 18. After the age of 18, only functional therapies are generally covered or in the case of necessary surgical procedures to correct malocclusion.
Are there any exceptions with regard to costs?
Patients with severe jaw anomalies who require combined orthodontic and oral surgery treatment are an exception.
Some treatment methods that are not described in the service catalog of the statutory health insurance funds (e.g. Invisalign splints) are also excluded from reimbursement.
